Jeremy Alvarez was named as Nyack Colleges’ Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field Coach in August 2021. Coach Alvarez, a Bronx, New York native, brings twenty-six (26) years of experience within the sport – which includes fourteen (14) years as a standout sprinter/jumper on USATF’s club circuit, New York City’s Public School Athletic League (PSAL), and NCAA Division I & II track and field, to go along with twelve (12) years of developing student-athletes as a high school coach.

Alvarez’s coaching career began as an assistant coach at Hastings on Hudson H.S. (2009-2010). In 2010, Alvarez accepted a job as the assistant coach at his alma mater, Dewitt Clinton H.S., coaching the sprints, relays, and hurdles. Alvarez’s first head coaching opportunity materialized in 2012, where he led The High School of Fashion Industries (2012-2018) cross country/track and field for six seasons. Prior to joining Nyack College, Alvarez also led the track and field
programs at Lehman H.S. (2018-2019) and Columbus H.S. (2019-2021) respectively. Coach Alvarez’ tenure at these institutions resulted in the following team honors:

  • Section 1 Class C Indoor League Team Champions (Hudson H.S. 2010)
  • 4x PSAL Manhattan Borough Indoor Team Championship – Runner Up (Fashion H.S. 2012-18)
  • 2x PSAL Manhattan Borough Indoor Team Championship – Second Runner Up (Fashion H.S. 2013, 2018)
  • 5x PSAL Manhattan Borough Outdoor Team Championship – Runner Up (Fashion H.S. 2012-18)
  • PSAL Manhattan Borough Outdoor Team Championship – Second Runner Up (Fashion H.S. 2018)
  • PSAL Cross Country Manhattan Borough Team Championship - Runner Up (Fashion H.S. 2016)
  • PSAL Bronx Borough Indoor Team Championship – Runner Up (Columbus H.S. 2020)

Similarly, Coach Alvarez’s student-athletes have been awarded many individual honors, which includes winning the prestigious, PSAL Wingate Award (2019). Alvarez has also coached one New York State Champion, multiple PSAL City Champions and State finalist, as well as the #2 all-time mark in the 400MH (2012). During his twelve-year tenure as a high school coach, over twenty-five (25+) student-athletes received scholarships to attended college and compete on the Division I, Division II, and NAIA levels.

As a former student-athlete, Alvarez was named an NSIC H.S. All American (2004), NCAA Two-Time Indoor Division II All American (2004-2006), and Most Outstanding Athlete (LIU 2007). Alvarez also won the Northeast 10 Indoor Conference’s 500M and was a seven (7) time finalist at the Northeast Conference’s Championships. Coach Alvarez draws on his vast competitive experiences to establish an environment where Nyack’s coaches, student-athletes, and athletic staff are able to develop their minds and talents to achieve their full potential.

In 2009, Alvarez earned a Bachelor of Science in K-12 Physical Education from Long Island University. Thereafter, in 2012, Alvarez earned a Master’s of Science in K-12 Health Education from Lehman College. Alvarez also received USATF’s Level I Coaching Certification.
