Akil St. Louis has been named Assistant Coach of the Women's/Men’s Track & Field/ Cross Country program at Alliance University, more specifically, as a coach for the distance and mid-distance runners.
Coach St. Louis recently served as the Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country coach at the College of Staten Island for the last three years and specializes in working with sprint and mid-distance runners.
Coach St. Louis’ coaching experience spans more than a decade. After one successful year at Long Island University, he went on to Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn, New York. In one year, Coach St. Louis created a winning tradition with both the boys' and girls’ programs after being named head coach. He continued extraordinary success with the girls’ Distance Medley Relay team, who at one point were ranked third in the country. While working with the male student-athletes, Bishop Ford became borough champions and were ultimately named indoor and outdoor champs in the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA). After four years at Bishop Ford High School, Coach St. Louis was hired to create a Track & Field Program at St. Joseph High School, which is an all-girls Catholic High School in Brooklyn, New York. In three years, the student-athletes won the 4x400 meter relay and were crowned NY State Federation champs in 2019.
Most recently, at the College of Staten Island, Coach St. Louis coached student-athletes who ultimately received All-Conference weekly honors. One of the student-athletes he coached was the 400-meter champion in both the CUNY Conference and East Coast Conference (ECC) in 2020—which was a first in the program’s history. Coach St. Louis also coached a student-athlete who became the East Coast Conference All-Conference runner-up in the 200 meters, as well as the Women’s 100-meter finals qualifier in the ECC.
Coach St. Louis values the student-athlete relationship above all. He believes in the importance of building rapport with each student-athlete and thinks that translates into a culture of success and teamwork. He is eager to continue this success at Alliance University.
“Coach Jeremy Alvarez and I both have big visions for the program. I'm really excited to get out there and get started," Coach St. Louis says. "Coach Alvarez and I were former teammates at Long Island University and want to build a successful culture within the unique, close-knit community here at Alliance. In addition to developing our team, we are excited to build future connections by recruiting motivated student-athletes in the communities across the Greater Tri-State area.”
“I'm looking forward to working with the current student-athletes at Alliance University and hope the athletes are excited about a new and exciting challenge as we move forward. I plan on engaging and helping our athletes grow as individuals not only on the track but in life beyond sports. I'm excited to share my vision for the program with the team and to take advantage of this great opportunity to build something special. I'm ready to hit the recruiting trail hard in pursuit of student-athletes who are excited about this opportunity, too, and are ready to establish a legacy at Alliance University.”
