Jersey City, NJ -- Alliance University athletic director Keith Davie has announced that head softball coach Jeff Aumend will resign with the conclusion of the 2023 softball season.

Aumend, who has been at the helm of the program since July 2015, led Alliance to a fourth place finish at the 2019 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship, the program's highest finish in the post-season since 2001. Alliance finished the season with a 17-31 overall record and 12-14 in conference play leading to a 8th place finish in the regular season standings. The 17 wins tied the program's highest from the 2002 season when the program finished the season 17-21. Aumend's program also finished 16th in the nation, academically, in 2021 with a team Grade Point Average of 3.68.

"We are so thankful for the contributions that Coach Aumend has made to the Alliance University softball program and the Athletics family in general." Davie said. "His presence was calming and professional during some very difficult times and we are so appreciative of all he has done for this institution.  While we will miss him here, we know that the next place he ends up will be blessed by his years of experience as well as his heart for the student-athletes."

"Alliance University is a great place with loving and faithful people; on a mission to bless young adults," stated Aumend, a veteran head coach of 23 years. "AU Softball did some great things with a program that was going through some tough stuff. We had: the best conference finish in 18 years; a Senior Female Athlete of the Year (Aferdita Sinanaj);  three Bowman Character Achievement winners (Katalina Padilla, twice; Alissa Brugnoli, once) and a top academic team in the nation, in 2021. We did that with good players, who were surrounded by faith-driven leaders, on our campuses. And, I'm a competitor. Winning matters. We were able to beat some of the top CACC programs, multiple times. That says something about our softball student-athletes. With the solid core of returning players and a really good incoming class, this program is on its way to great things!"

A national search for his replacement will be conducted.
