Sarah Nunez Walk-Off Double Earns Alliance a Split with Dominican

Jersey City, NJ - The Alliance University softball program garnered its second conference win of the season with a split during Wednesday's conference doubleheader with the Dominican University Chargers. DU took the win in game win with a score of 11-0 after five innings, while AU came out on top in the second game with a 5-4 win over seven innings. 

Game 1
  • Dominican ran away with the game when they scored seven runs in the top of the second
  • the Chargers added another pair of runs in the top of the third and fourth inning
  • Sarah Nunez led Alliance in the first game with two hits in two at-bats
Game 2
  • things started off better in the second game for AU when Jayna Celano's single scored Brittany Tomala to give Alliance the 1-0 lead in the top of third
  • Kayla Bird then doubled to right field to score Celano later in the inning to extend the lead to two
  • Dominican answered with a pair of runs each in the top of the third and fourth inning to take the 4-2 lead
  • AU was ready to throw everything in to turn the game around in the bottom of the 7th
  • Janelle Adams forced the walk, before Kayla Bird singled to place runners on first and second
  • Kate Crandall singled to left field to load the bases before a Kaila Quick single to left field scored Adams brought Alliance within one, 3-4
  • Up next was freshman Sarah Nunez who cracked a ball deep into left field for a double which scored pinch runner Esmeralda Sime and Kate Crandall to win the game 5-4
