Jersey City, NJ -- Freshman Nicole Blanch scored her 23rd point of the game with a second left to give Alliance the victory over Cheyney University on Tuesday night. With the 65-62 win AU snaps their seven game losing streak.
AU came out hot scoring 21 points in the first quarter. But Cheyney also showed a high-power offense and stayed within four points finishing the first quarter with a scored of 21-17 for AU. The second quarter continued in a back and forth affair keeping both teams tied at 15 points each which meant AU took a four point lead into the half, 36-32. Cheyney had the better third quarter and managed to tie the game at the end of the third period with the score 45-45, before senior Carly Bolivar used a trip to the foul line to keep AU ahead by two. Alliance managed to go up by six with five minutes left in the last quarter, but Cheyney managed to find its way back into game to tie it up. With nine seconds left Cheyney used a trip to the foul line to tie up the game, before freshman Nicole Blanch sniped from behind the arc to give Alliance the win.
Freshman Nicole Blanch led AU with 23 points, followed by Raquel Crooke-Losada who posted another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Carly Bolivar also posted double digit scoring with 10 points, while Nia Lariosa pulled down ten rebounds.
AU will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Chestnut Hill for another CACC contest.
