Jersey City, NJ — Fernando Colon, one of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's (CACC) most successful coaches over the past two seasons has been named the head coach at Alliance University, athletic director Keith Davie announced.
Fernando Colon, who joins the AU women's volleyball program from conference rivals Bloomfield College, has transformed the Bears throughout the past two seasons leading Bloomfield to back-to-back North Division regular season titles. The Bears made the trip to the CACC conference finals in both seasons, but fell short of claiming the ultimate prize. Before joining Bloomfield in 2021, Colon has been the Girls Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Hudson Catholic Regional High School for 12 years. Colon stated, "I would like to thank the Athletic Director, Keith Davie, and the rest of the administration for trusting me to lead the Alliance University Women's Volleyball program. I truly feel blessed for this opportunity."
At Hudson Catholic, Colon built the girls' volleyball program from the ground up in 2008 when the school went co-ed; the regional high school had previously served as an all-boys school. Colon was named the 2012 and 2015 HCIAL Coach of the Year, voted on by league coaches. In 2016, NJ.COM recognized Fernando as the HCIAL Coach of the Year. A well decorated coach and respected in the volleyball community, Colon led Hudson Catholic to the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 County Championship titles and the 2016 & 2017 Non-Public B Sectional State titles.
Athletic Director Keith Davie says, "We are all excited to add Fernando Colon to the Alliance University Family. His core values, coaching experience and drive are all great fits for our athletic department and the volleyball team will reap the benefits of having him here. I am really looking forward to how he and his staff will prosper as we turn to their leadership of our volleyball program."
Colon currently resides in Union NJ with his beautiful wife Tina along with their two wonderful children, daughter Genesis and son Nijel.
