Jersey City, NJ -- The Nyack College athletic department is excited to announce the hiring of André Narvaez as new head baseball coach and sports information director. Narvaez becomes the 17th coach at the helmet of the baseball program in Nyack College history. In addition, Narvaez will take over the Sports Information Department from current Sports Information Director, Alex Schmidt, who will transition into his new role as assistant athletic director, while also supporting Narvaez in the Winter and Spring semesters.
Athletic director Keith Davie states, "I am very pleased that we could find a coach with the experience and character of André Narvaez. He will be a great steward of the baseball program as we return our program to the place where it should be. His experience in the CACC at two rival schools gives him a great perspective on what it will take to put Nyack Baseball on the CACC, regional and national map. I look forward to big things from Coach Narvaez and the Nyack baseball program in the next few years!"
André Narvaéz, a 2004 graduate of NJIT, enters his 11th season coaching college baseball. Most recently, he served as an assistant at Felician University. Before his time with the Golden Falcons, Narvaez was an assistant coach at Caldwell University and worked with pitchers and catchers where he spent four years. Narvaez started his collegiate coaching career at NJIT where he stayed for five seasons as the NJIT Highlanders first base and pitching coach and also assisted with the outfielders.
Narvaez also coaches the brand new Fred Hill Baseball Academy's travel team, the New Jersey Moose. He is the GM/owner and coach of the Essex Cubs in the ABCCL (summer college league).
Narvaez, who coached during NJIT's transition from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, helped guide the 2006 Highlanders to the ECAC postseason championship and a school-record 27 wins, including a three-game sweep of the ECAC Tournament for NJIT's third straight season with at least 20 wins and an ECAC postseason berth.
A four-year player of the NJIT's baseball program, Narvaez led the Highlanders in appearances and innings pitch for two seasons, including a 2 hit shutout of Post University in 2001.
Narvaez recently served as the Director of Baseball and head coach for the 17U In the Zone Knights Travel teams, located in Flanders, New Jersey. In his last year at ITZ, Narvaez led the 17U team to two tournament championships.
Coach Narvaez has coached 11 players who have gone on to play professionally and has helped MANY achieve their dream of playing college baseball.
"I would like to thank Keith and the hiring committee for this opportunity. I am excited to be a part of the Nyack family," Narvaez states, "In my career, I have worked with many quality coaches and I would like to thank them also. It is an honor to be the head coach of my own college baseball program. I have a love and passion for the game I want to share and I also feel, as a coach, I help mold young men inside and outside the lines."
