Jersey City, NJ -- The Nyack College softball team hosted the Bloomfield College Bears on Wednesday afternoon for their 2022 senior day. Between games, the team took a few minutes to say thank you to seniors Erin O'Brien, Kelly Rattigan, Arielys Rodriguez, Izzy Murillo, and Izzy Morales for all their hard work and dedication that they had brought to the Warriors softball program during their time at Nyack.
Game 1
Nyack got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Janelle Adams doubled to center field which allowed Jessa Johnson to reach home plate for the 1-0 Nyack lead. Bloomfield took their first lead with a run scored in each the top of the third and fourth inning to jump ahead by 1-2. But the Warriors answered right away in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game up. Izzy Morales scored off a Kelly Rattigan double. It seemed as if the Warriors might be able to take game one when Rattigan doubled once again to score Erin O'Brien for the 3-2 lead. But the Bears evened the game in the top of the 7th. Nyack had the chance with a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the 7th to win the game but was denied by the Bears' pitching staff to force extra innings. Bloomfield scored two runs in the top of the 8th to go ahead 3-5 which was ultimately enough to decide game one in their favor.
Game 2
The Bears got on the scoreboard first in the second game, but the Warriors would take the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning. Jessa Johnson and Jayna Celano scored off a Janelle Adams single to get the Warriors ahead. Johnson then hit a double in the bottom of the fourth to score Kaila Quick, before a Jayna Celano single scored Johnson for the 4-1 Nyack lead. Bloomfield came within two when they scored a run in the top of the 6th but were unable to find any more scoring opportunities in a game that finished with a final score of 4-2 for the Warriors.
Nyack will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Blauvelt, NY to take on the Dominican College Chargers in another CACC doubleheader.
