Jersey City, NJ -- Alliance University athletic director Keith Davie announced that women's volleyball head coach Raquel Shaffer will resign from her position as head women's volleyball coach at the end of 2022 to pursue other professional opportunities within the institution. Coach Shaffer had been in charge of the women's volleyball program since 2008 and led AU through 15 seasons posting a 118-288 record. Her program claimed the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Team Sportsmanship Award in 14 out of 15 seasons. Shaffer's best season came in 2013 when the team finished the season with a record of 17-16 and she was named the CACC Coach of the Year. In the same year, sophomore standout Samantha Garza was named the 2013 CACC Player of the year. Throughout her 15 years at the helm Raquel Shaffer coached five CACC All-Conference First-Team, six Second-Team, three honorable mentions recipients, as well as one conference Player and one Defensive Player of the Year.

Athletic director Keith Davie states, "It has been very rewarding watching Raquel first as a student-athlete, and then as our Volleyball Coach for the last 15 seasons. Her character and concern for the individual volleyball players who have been at our institution shows that she is grounded in the right things. Her ability to dig down into her players' personal lives has created some long lasting relationships. Her presence on the sideline of Alliance Volleyball will be missed."
