Jersey City, NJ - Alliance women's soccer team fought hard game for 85 minutes. AU gave up the winning goal in the 86th minute after the game being tied for approximately 80 minutes. Alliance got off to an early lead with a sensational shot by sophomore
Lara Noe (Tübingen, Germany) who stole a pass from Wilmington to start the chain reaction which lead to her goal. After Lara intercepted the Wilmington pass she passed the ball along the left side to
Samara Phillips-Hines (London, England) who then crossed the ball to
Maria Vargas Dominguez (Jerez de la Frontera, Spain). Maria used a touch pass to Lara who then chipped a shot over the outstretched arms of Wilmington's keeper Mio Nakajima. Wilmington was able to tie the game exactly 32 seconds later of off the kickoff.
Freshman
Celine Grothe (Luebeck, Germany) made her second save on a penalty kick in the 52 minute which made it seem like the women were destined to win this game. Unfortunately, Wilmington's Yazmyne Valencia used her speed and touch to sneak a shot between the post and AU keeper Celine for the game winner.
The women will host Caldwell on Tuesday October 25 at 1:00pm. AU can play spoiler by beating Caldwell, which would provide Wilmington the opportunity to take the eight seed away.
