Box Score 2 Caldwell, NJ -- The Nyack College softball team had a quick turnaround after dropping both games in a conference doubleheader to Post University on Thursday. Nyack traveled to Caldwell, NJ on Friday to take on the Cougars in another conference doubleheader. The Cougars dominated the first game with a final score of 0-14 after five innings, while the Warriors stepped up to the plate in game two and edged out the Cougars by a score of 6-1.
Game 1
Caldwell controlled the entirety of the first game, with the Warriors struggling at-bat. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the first, before pulling away with the game by scoring ten runs in the bottom of the third and another run in the bottom of the fourth.
Game 2
The Warriors loaded the bases early in game two before Izzy Murillo singled to right field to allow Jayna Celano to reach home plate. Caldwell tied the game back up in the bottom of the fourth, but the Warriors were determined to see this one out, scoring another four runs in the top of the fourth. Tia Celano tripled to center field, which allowed Isabella Morales and Janelle Adams to score. Makensie Miller then singled down the middle to bring Celano home, Jessa Johnson doubled to left field to allow Miller to reach home plate. Nyack scored another run in the top of the sixth when Kaila Quick scored her first home run of the season, her third career-wise.
Makensie Miller led Nyack on the mound, allowing six hits and one earned run in seven innings pitched while striking out four of the 31 batters she faced.
Nyack will be back on Monday when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Holy Family University Tigers in another conference doubleheader at 2 and 4 pm.
