Softball Drops Home Opener to Post University

Staten Island, NY -- The Nyack College softball team lost both games in their 2021 home opener to the Post University Eagles on Thursday afternoon. The Warriors nearly edged out the Eagles in game one but came up short with a final score of 9-11, while the Eagles dominated game two with a final score of 4-12. 

Game 1 

Both teams got on the board in the first inning. The Eagles scored their first two runs off a home run before the Warriors answered with two scores of their own in the bottom of the first. Janelle Adams singled up the middle, which saw Jessa Johnson reach home before Jayna Celano singled to left field to allow Adams to score. 

Post scored another pair of runs in the top of the third. Nyack answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third. Isabella Morales singled to right field and Janelle Adams scored her second run of the day. Both teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the game. Going into the 7th inning, the teams were separated by two-run, 9-11. The Warriors managed to keep the Eagles off the board but were unable to get any runs of their own to tie up the game. 

Tia Celano led Nyack in game one with three hits, two runs, and two RBIs in four at-bats against the Eagles. 

Game 2

The Eagles took control of the second game right off the bat scoring 8 runs in the first four innings, compared to Nyack's lone run in the bottom of the first. Jessa Johnson scored on a wild pitch. The Warriors scored another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Johnson tripled to left field which scored Kelly Rattigan and Brittany Tomala. Johnson then scored herself off a ground out by Arielys Rodriguez to Post's shortstop. 

Jessa Johnson led the Warriors in game two, with two hits, including a triple, two runs, and two RBIs in three at-bats. 

Nyack will be back tomorrow when they travel to Caldwell University to take on the Cougars in another conference doubleheader.
