Box Score 2 New Castle, DE -- The Nyack College softball team traveled to New Castle, Delaware on Monday to take on the Wilmington University Wildcats in another CACC doubleheader. The Wildcats took game one with a final score of 2-4 before the Warriors turned around and garnered game two with a score of 3-2.
Game 1 - Nyack vs. Wilmington, 2-4
The Wildcats got on the board first in the bottom of the first. Nyack would take its first lead in the top of the fourth. Erin O'Brien scored off an Isabella Morales grounder and Jayna Celano scored after the Wildcats dropped a fly ball in left field.
Wilmington, however, got right back on top when they scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim their lead, 2-4, which would also be the final score of game one. Jessa Johnson and Jayna Celano both recorded two hits in game one, while Makensie Miller pitched the full six innings.
Game 2 - Nyack vs. Wilmington, 3-2
Nyack got off to a better start in game two scoring its first run in the top of the first. Jessa Johnson had made her way to the bases and scored off a Jayna Celano double to left-center. The Warriors extended their lead in the top of the third with a pair of runs. Celano hit her second double of the game which saw her sister Tia Celano score. Janelle Adams then put the ball into play and Johnson scored her second of game two. The Wildcats tried to find their way back into the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth and the sixth, but the Warriors managed to keep them at bay and earn the win in game two with a final score of 3-2.
Jessa Johnson recorded four hits in four at-bats and scored two runs. Jayna Celano hit two doubles and batted in two. Celano also got the win on the mound pitching six innings, while Miller got her first save of the season.
Up next: Nyack will be back on Wednesday when they travel to Rutherford, New Jersey to square off with the Felician University Golden Falcons in another CACC doubleheader.
