Softball Edged out in CACC Doubleheader with the Jefferson University Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Staten Island, NY -- The Nyack College softball team squared off with the Jefferson University Rams on Saturday night for a CACC doubleheader. The Rams decided game one with a dominant performance on offense and edged out the Warriors in game two with three late runs in the top of the 7th to complete the sweep.

Game 1 - Nyack vs. Jefferson, 2-13

The Rams got on the board first in the top of the second scoring a pair of runs and added another one in the top of the third. Jefferson continued to add on to its lead by scoring three more runs in the top of the fourth. Nyack tried to find their way back into the game and scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jayna Celano reached first on an error by the Rams' first base, which saw Erin O'Brien score. Janelle Adams scored Nyack's second run of the inning off an error by Jefferson's shortstop.

The Rams would run away with the game in the following two innings scoring a pair of runs in the top of the 5th and another five runs in the top of the 6th to finish the game after six innings with a score of 2-13.

Game 2 - Nyack vs. Jefferson, 3-5

For the majority of the second game, the Warriors looked as if they would be able to take game two from the Rams. Nyack scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. Jessa Johnson scored off a Janelle Adams single. The Warriors added on another pair of runs in the bottom of the third. With Janelle Adams and Erin O'Brien on base, Jayna Celano stepped up to bat and smashed the ball to center field for a double that saw both Adams and O'Brien score.

The Rams got their first run on the board in the top of the fourth and added another in the top of the 6th. The Warriors struggled offensively in the second part of game two, which kept the Rams lingering around. In the top of the 7th, the Warriors seemed to have kept Jefferson at bay. Nyack got two of the Rams' batters out and the bases were empty. But the Rams managed to find their way back into the game adding three more runs to take their first lead, 3-5. Nyack tried to get something going in the bottom of the 7th but was kept off the scoreboard by the Rams, which led to a heartbreaking 3-5 loss for the Warriors.

Janelle Adams led the Warriors with a combined four hits over both games, including two doubles.

Nyack will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host the University of the Sciences Devils in another CACC doubleheader.
