Box Score 2 Bloomfield, NJ -- The Nyack College softball program got their second and third win in a row with a doubleheader sweep over the Bloomfield College Bears on Wednesday afternoon. With the wins, the Warriors improve to 3-3 in conference play.
Game 1, Nyack 11-3 Bloomfield
Both teams managed to keep each other off the scoreboard in the first two innings of game one. Nyack broke the deadlock in the top of the third inning scoring three runs to take the lead. Brittany Tomala reached third base off a single by Jessa Johnson and then scored off an error by the Bears defense. Janelle Adams then doubled to left field, which saw Erin O'Brien and Jessa Johnson score for the 3-0 Nyack lead.
The Bears answered in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs to come within one. But the Warriors immediately took control of the game again with four runs in the top of the fifth. Johnson started off the Warriors scoring in the fifth with a home run before Kaila Quick tripled to right field which saw Arielys Rodriguez score. Jayna Celano continued to scoring with her first collegiate home run with Quick on base.
Bloomfield tried to find their way back into the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Nyack made sure they will leave the field as victors with another four-run outburst in the top of the 7th. Tomala forced the walk that saw Adams score before Jayna Celano scored off a wild pitch. Tia Celano rounded up the Warrior scoring with a single to second base that saw Tomala and Izzy Murillo score for a final score of 11-3.
Four Warriors posted two hits in game one with a team total of 12. Makensie Miller led the Warriors through seven innings on the mound with a total of nine strikeouts and three earned runs for her second win of the season.
Game 2, Nyack 4-3 Bloomfield
Nyack was first on the scoreboard again in game two when they scored three in the top of the second. Tia Celano's sacrifice fly allowed Izzy Murillo to score Nyack's first run of game two. Erin O'Brien's triple to right field then saw Rodriguez and Tomala score another pair of runs for the 3-0 Nyack lead.
Bloomfield answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to come within one of the Nyack lead, but the Warriors added another security run in the top of the fifth. Izzy Murillo singled to the shortstop and Erin O'Brien scored her first in game two. The Bears tried to get right back into the game scoring another run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Warriors defense around Makensie Miller on the Mound was able to keep the Bears off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game to seal the doubleheader sweep.
Miller had a stellar second game as well pitching all seven innings and striking out 8 for a total of 17 on the day. Miller is currently ranked third in strikeouts with 47 and fifth in strikeouts per game with 7.15 in the CACC.
Nyack will be back in action on Saturday when they host the Jefferson University Rams for another conference doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 pm.
