Box Score Jersey City, NJ -- The Nyack College women's soccer team bounced back after their loss against the Jefferson University Rams, by upending the Dominican College Chargers 1-0 on Saturday evening. With the win the Warriors improve to 3-2-1 and are currently third in the CACC standings.
The Chargers enjoyed the better start into the game getting the first two shots of the game. Nyack slowly found its way into the game and started to created some opportunities of its own. However, in the 19th minute a Dominican forward was brought down in the penalty area, which saw the Chargers being awared a penalty kick. Dominican's Ally Whittaker took the shot from the spot but was denied by the goal post to keep the score level at 0-0. Only four minutes later the Chargers were denied by the post once again. In the 33rd minute, the Warriors found the back of the net for the first time on the day to break the deadlock. Midfielder Maria Vargas layed the ball up to Shanice Rapp who too a shot from 25 yards out that sailed over the Chargers' goalkeeper into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal marked Rapp's fourth of the season.
Dominican threw everything forward in the second half to find the equalizer, but was either denied by the post/crossbar or Nyack's goalkeeper Michelle Baum, who finished the day with five saves denying several one-on-one opportunities.
Nyack will be back on Wednesday for their last regular season game, when the host the Felician University Golden Falcons at 12:00 pm.
