Box Score Jersey City, NJ -- The Nyack College women's soccer team hosted the Georgian Court University Lions on Wednesday afternoon for their 2021 home opener. It was the first regular-season contest for the Georgian Court University Lions who were ranked second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) preseason poll.
Georgian Court pushed up the field right of the start firing a pair of shots in the first ten minutes of the game. Nyack slowly took charge of the game firing a total of seven shots in the first half with five of them being on target. However, they were either denied by the Lions' goalkeeper Alyssa Dias or the GCU defense. The first half would finish scoreless with a 7-3 advantage in shots for the Warriors.
In the second half, the Warriors pushed for the go-ahead goal. In the 57th minute, midfielder Maren Wolf found forward Anna Lopez whose first touch and clinical finish broke the deadlock to give Nyack the 1-0 lead. Nyack continued to dominate the second half, creating multiple opportunities. In the 73rd minute, Shanice Rapp found her way down the right flank and crossed the ball into the penalty area where Chloeanne Hails took two touches and put the ball in the bottom left corner for her first collegiate goal. Four minutes later the Warriors found the back of the net again. Maria Vargas fired a shot from 25 yards out and was denied by the post. Vargas then collected her own rebound and was brought down in the penalty area. Shanice Rapp stepped up to convert the penalty kick to the top right corner for her second goal of the season. The game finished with a final score of 3-0 and with the win, the Warriors improve to 1-0-1 on the season.
Nyack will travel to Caldwell, NJ on Saturday to square off with the Caldwell University Cougars at 6 pm.
