The Nyack College lacrosse team hosted Wilmington in the Warriors' final home game of the season
on Saturday, honoring their seniors
Tori Silvers,
Courtney LaTorre,
Isabella Thomas and
Lindsay Miller at the start of the game. The Warriors fought hard and ended the game in a close loss, 21-17 to the Wildcats.
Wilmington started the game off with the first goal at
1:45, but
Tori Silvers scored twice in a row - once at
3:27 and once at
5:51 - to give the Warriors in an early lead. Wilmington tied the score, and
Melissa Clapsaddle answered with an unassisted goal to put the Warriors back up at
18:37. Wilmington scored twice in the next two minutes, but Nyack earned four consecutive goals from
Julianna Kranes at
11:04,
Melissa Clapsaddle at
12:42, and
Tori Silvers at
14:34 and 14:51 to claim back the lead. Wilmington, however, returned the favor with five goals to put the Wildcats in front 9-7.
Melissa Clapsaddle snapped Wilmington's scoring streak with a goal at 24:20, which was answered with a Wildcat score at 26:01.
Jocelin Wright gave Nyack the last score of the half with an unassisted goal at 26:27, and the Warriors went into halftime down 10-9.
In the second half, Wilmington again had the first score, but the Warriors answered with a goal on
Jocelin Wright's free position shot. The Wildcats then scored three more times
in three minutes.
Julianna Kranes went in for an unassisted goal at 40:45, followed closely by Tori Silver's free position goal at 41:02. After two Wilmington goals,
Jocelin Wright scored on a free position shot at 47:53. Wilmington scored three goals in a row, but the Warriors answered in kind with three goals of their own in less than a minute, two from
Tori Silvers at 53:08 and 53:27 and one from
Julianna Kranes at 53:48 to bring Nyack within 3. Wilmington scored twice more to pull just out of reach, and
Melissa Clapsaddle scored the final goal at 55:16 as time ran out on the Warriors' comeback effort and Nyack ended the game in a loss.
