The Nyack College softball team headed into their fifth day of the Florida tournament
on Tuesday, facing Hillsdale College and the University of Mary March. The Warriors lost 7-0 to Hillsdale but claimed a 6-2 victory over the University of Mary March for a split.
In the first game against the Hillsdale Chargers, Nyack found themselves at an early deficit as Hillsdale scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Morgan Hans made it to second base in the top of the second after a walk and a wild pitch, but the three batters after her were all struck out. The Warriors had another runner on base in the top of the fourth as
Katie Lupinacci drew a walk, but the following batters were again struck out. Lupinacci recorded Nyack's first hit of the game on a double in the top of the sixth with two outs. She was left stranded after a groundout, and Hillsdale added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Katalina Padilla singled in the top of the seventh inning in the Warriors' last offensive attempt, but Nyack ended the game two batters later in a 7-0 loss.
In the second game, the Warriors faced the University of Mary March, ready for a rematch after Nyack's loss the previous day. The Warriors immediately jumped ahead in the bottom of the first after
Erin O'Brien doubled and then was brought home on the following double and RBI by
Alissa Brugnoli. Brugnoli then came immediately in for another score after a single and RBI from
Aferdita Sinanaj, putting Nyack up 2-0. In the bottom of the third,
Morgan Hans doubled with two outs and then advanced to third off a single from Placencia.
Nicole Wisser then drove in Hans and Placencia on a single for two RBI's. The next inning,
Erin O'Brien doubled, leading to two RBI's when
Alissa Brugnoli homered on the next at-bat to give Nyack a 6-0 lead. The University of Mary March scored twice in the top of the seventh off of a home run and a single RBI, but the Warriors closed out the game with a 6-2 win.
