Nyack Softball Splits with Goldey-Beacom in Road Conference Doubleheader

The Nyack College softball team traveled to take on conference opponent Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, dropping the first game 5-2 but winning the second 7-1 to split the games for the day. The Warriors' CACC record now stands at 2-4.
 
In the first game, the Lightning scored in the bottom of the first with a 2-RBI single.  The Warriors' offense answered in the top of the third as Katie Lupinacci walked and then advanced to second on a groundout, coming in for the score in Alissa Brugnoli's RBI single. The Lightning came right back in the bottom of the third with three runs scored. In the bottom of the fourth, Stephanie White retired the Goldey Beacom side in order to keep the score at 5-1 with Nyack down. In the top of the fifth, Erin O'Brien reached base on a Lightning error, and then was brought home on Alissa Brugnoli's RBI double. Goldey-Beacom threatened to score in the bottom of the fifth with two runners in scoring position and two outs, but a groundout finished the inning for the Lightning. The Warriors had Erin O'Brien on third in the top of the seventh with two outs after she reached on an error, but Nyack could not get an offensive surge, striking out to end the game in a 5-2 loss. 
 
In the second game, Nyack scored first as Morgan Hans doubled to left field and then was brought home on Shelby Davidson's RBI single.  Nicole Wisser retired the Lightning's side in order for the next two innings. In the top of the third, Gabrielle Placencia singled with two outs, followed by a single from Alissa Brugnoli to put two runners on base. Aferdita Sinanaj delivered with an RBI double to bring in two more runs, putting the Warriors up 3-0. Nyack continued with their strong offensive showing in the top of the fifth, as Katie Lupinacci singled and advanced to third on Erin O'Brien's double. Gabrielle Placencia brought in Lupinacci on a sacrifice fly, and O'Brien followed with a score on the next play due to a Goldey-Beacom error. In the top of the seventh, Katie Lupinacci walked to get on base, and Erin O'Brien hit an inside-the-park home run to bring in two more scores for Nyack. Alissa Brugnoli singled and threatened to score by advancing to third on Aferdita Sinanaj's following single, but the next two batters got out. Goldey-Beacom scored their run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single, but Nyack prevented the Lightning from mounting a comeback, and the Warriors took the 7-1 victory.
 
Alissa Brugnoli, Aferdita Sinanaj, and Erin O'Brien each recorded 2 RBI for the day, with O'Brien also contributing 4 hits overall. Brittany Blair was the starting pitcher for the first game, and Nicole Wisser pitched the second game.
 
Up next, the Warriors travel to Chestnut Hill on Monday, 4/2 with games at 1:30PM and 3:30PM.
