Box Score

The Nyack Warriors volleyball team traveled to New Haven to take on the Southern Connecticut State University Owls, where they came out strong but ended up losing a tough match 1-3.

In the first set, the rallies were back-and-forth as the Owls and Warriors matched each other point for point in the start of the set. Nyack capitalized on some serving errors by SCSU and used their versatile offense to pull ahead, spreading the ball around to different hitters to split the Owls' block. The Warriors closed out the first set 25-20. Heading into the second set, the Owls started picking on the open spots in the Warriors' defense and stepped up their serving, cutting down on their errors. Nyack responded by adjusting their offensive plan and setting the right side hitters to open up the block for the outsides, but their efforts came up short, and SCSU took the second set from the Warriors 20-25.

The third set started out shakily for the Warriors, with SCSU jumping out to a quick lead. Nyack had to play catch-up for the rest of the set and came within a few points, thanks to strong serves by sophomore Abby Wright who recorded three straight aces at a critical run in the game. In the end, the deficit proved too big for the Warriors to overcome, and they dropped the third set 19-25. The fourth set started out in the same manner, with the Warriors unable to return the Owls' serves at the beginning. Nyack had some hustle plays to keep the ball alive during long rallies, but SCSU's fast start and consistent play finished out the fourth set with the Warriors losing 14-25.

Senior Larreya Hayden led the Warriors with 14 kills, helped by freshman Rachel Medin who had 22 assists. Senior Kelsi Collins added 13 digs, and the front line had 7 blocks as a team.

Up next, Nyack volleyball travels to New Hampshire to play in a tournament at St. Anselm on Friday and Saturday.
