Women's Lacrosse Celebrates First Win of the Season against Post University

Nyack, NY - The Nyack College women's lacrosse team won its first game of the 2017 season on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors defeated the Post University 17-12 at Moseley Field. The win improves the Warrior record to 1-8, and 1-2 in CACC play. 

Post had the better start scoring twice in the first six minutes to earn a 2-0 lead. But the Warriors would answer with four consecutive goals to earn their first lead of the day, which they protected for the remainder of the game. Victoria Silvers would score her first goal of the day in the 24th minute, before a Hailey Newell double-strike within 30 seconds would give the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Jocelin Wright added another Warrior goal at the 15:06 minute mark, 4-2. Post's Toni Deren scored at the 14:19 minute mark to cut the Warrior lead to one. But Nyack would go on another breakaway run scoring five unanswered goals. Julianna Kranes, Abby Wilmot, and Victoria Silvers (3) scored between the 14th and the 5th minute of the first half, 9-3. The Eagles scored two more within 30 seconds to cut the Nyack lead back down to four. But Silvers and Wilmot would regain the 6-goal lead for Nyack, 11-5. The last goal of the first half was scored by Post with 46 second remaining in the half, which finished with a score of 11-6 in favor of the Warriors. 

The second half was a back and forth battle between both teams. The Eagles slowly worked their way back into the game, scoring the first goal of the half after only 30 seconds, 11-7. Nyack's Victoria Silvers would answer right away with another goal, but Post was able to find the back of the Nyack net two more times in the following minutes, 12-9. Silvers would score again at the 24:57 minute mark, but the Eagles would get a goal of their own 30 seconds later, 13-10. Jocelin Wright scored her first of the day at the 22:53 minute mark, before the Eagles would score another two goals to cut the Nyack lead to two with 15:28 minutes remaining. But Nyack would seal the victory with three consecutive goals in the final minutes. Wright, Wilmot, and Silvers would score a goal each to close out the game, 17-12. 

Victoria Silvers led the Warriors with a game-high 8 goals, while teammate Abby Wilmot led the game in groundballs (11) and won draw controls (8). 

Up next: Nyack will be back in action this Saturday, April 1st, when they host the Caldwell University Cougars at 1pm on Moseley Field.
