Softball Edged Out by Caldwell Cougars in Doubleheader

Caldwell, NJ - The Nyack College women's softball team lost both games in today's doubleheader to the Caldwell University Cougars. The Cougars won game one with a score of 4-2 and game two with 10-5. The losses drop the Warrior record to 1-19 and 0-4 in CACC play.

Game One

Game one saw the Cougars score all of their four runs in the first inning. Nyack would cut the Caldwell lead down to two in the top of the fourth. Katalina Padilla doubled to right center which allowed Stephanie White to reach home base. Padilla would eventually advance to third base, while Aferdita Sinanaj and Shelby Davidson found themselves on second and first base after being walked. Sarah Spindel was up next at bat and was also walked, which allowed Padilla to score. However, Nyack was unable to put any more runs on the scorebaord and the game finished with a score of 4-2 in favor of the Cougars.

Game Two

Game two started with three Cougar runs in the bottom of the first. Nyack answered with two runs of its in the top of the third. Alissa Brugnoli tripled to right field and allowed Sarah Spindel to score. Next, Brugnoli advanced to home on a passed ball by the Cougar Catcher, 2-3.

Caldwell would add another run in the bottom of the third to earn a two-run lead, while adding another two scores in the bottom of the fourth to double their lead, 2-6. Katie Lupinacci scored in the top of the sixth after a Stephanie White double to left center and Nicole Wisser singled to center field, which allowed White to score as well, 4-6.

Caldwell would reach a double digit score in the bottom of the sixth when they added four runs to their side of the scoreboard, 4-10. Nyack added one more in the top of the seventh, when White scored after a Padilla single to right center. Game two finished with a score of 10-5.

Up next: Nyack will host Chestnut Hill in their 2017 home opener on Saturday, April 1st, at the South Orangetown Little League Complex. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
