The Basics:
Score: Nyack 0 | Post 4
Nyack Record: 1-8-1
Post Record: 6-4-1
Location: Moseley Field
NYACK, NY
Despite Nyack's rally on offense in the second period, the Warriors were unable to overcome Central Atlantic Conference opponents, the Eagles of Post University, losing the match with a final score of 4-0. The Warriors demonstrated incredible athleticism and adjusted well to a mid game rearrangement producing five times the amount of shots in the second period.
How It Happened:
Sophomore keeper Jordan Jansen (Lafayette, NJ) held Post University to 4 goals saving 4 shots from scoring throughout the match. Of Nyack's 13 shots against Post, senior Krystal Vega (Anaheim Hills, CA) and sophomore Rebekah Lawler (Lacey, NJ) each recorded 4 shots, leading the Warriors in offense. Vega placed half of her shots on target, while Lawler added 1 shot on goal of her 4 shots. The two Warriors were joined by 4 teammates with shots on the Post goal; junior Katherine Oldfield (Bolton, England) with 2 shots and 1 shot on goal, and sophomore Lauren Rygus (Mississauga, Canada), junior Melanie Garcia (Queens, NY), and freshman Vanessa Sefriou (Québec, Canada) who each took 1 shot and landed it on target.
Vega exploded into the game landing her first shot, missing wide, in the 3rd minute of action. Sefriou followed close behind with a header shot saved by the keeper in the 6th minute. Past these two events, the first period saw limited action from the Warrior offense. Jansen was able to record her first 2 saves of the game after two successive shots in the 39th to 30th minute. Unfortunately, Post would achieve their first goal of the match in the 33rd minute. The Warrior defense would keep 2 more shots from reaching the goal line before the period expired, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of Post.
The second period saw Post emerge ready for action against a new Warrior field. After scoring their 2nd goal of the match in the 47th minute of play, just 2 minutes into the second half, Post would remain at the control of the Warrior offense until the 64th minute. Lawler, Vega and Garcia would each take turns making the Post defense scramble to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard. Post regained momentum and maintained control from the 64th to the 73rd minute with 4 shots and 1 save by Jansen, ending with a goal in the 73rd minute. Lawler returned fire with another shot on the Post goal just missing target and hitting the crossbar. Oldfield followed with her own shot being picked up by the keeper in the 80th minute. Lawler and Vega continued to press the Post defense with header shots, while Rygus and Oldfield added shots as well all saved or blocked by the Post defensive line. Post would tally another goal in the 88th minute, but Vega would not let up adding a final shot for the Warriors before the final seconds would tick away. The game would conclude with a final score of Nyack 0, Post 4.
