Baseball Battles to CACC Split with Caldwell 6-9, 6-3

PAMONA, NY (April 16, 2013)

The men's baseball team battled their way to a CACC DH split with conference foe Caldwell College: losing game 1 by a score of 6-9, and winning game two by a 6-3 margin.  Nyack currently sits at 6-7 in CACC play.

Game 1:
Caldwell would take advantage of several defensive miscues in the 2nd inning of play to take a 6-0 lead of the contest.  Nyack would add two runs in the bottom of the 3rd on an rbi double from Kris Chatman and an rbi single from Brent James.

Caldwell would add two more runs in the top of the 5th to lead 8-2, but Nyack would answer again in the bottom of the 5th with a 2 run single off the bat of Phil Erwin, making the deficit 8-4.  Nyack would scratch another run across in the bottom of the 6th when Eric Roe would triple before scoring on a wild pitch and making the score 8-5.  Jose Rodriguez would drive in the Warriors final run of the game making the score 8-6 in the 8th on an rbi fielders choice.  Caldwell would add on a run in the top of the 9th and take home a 9-6 win in game one.

Cole Tobin takes the loss for the Warriors, pitching 5 innings, allowing 5 earned runs.  John Kennedy, Brent James, Phil Erwin, TJ Briggs, and Eric Roe would each post multiple hit efforts in the loss.


Game 2:
The Warriors would strike first in game two with a two run second inning powered by rbi singles from Eric Roe and John Kennedy.  TJ Briggs would drive in the Warriors third run of the game in the 6th inning, bringing in Phil Erwin, who had singled and stole 2nd to begin the inning.  

Caldwell would threaten in the top of the 8th, adding 2 runs to make the score a 3-2 game.  Nyack would answer with a 3-run bottom of the 8th to take a 6-3 lead of the contest, on rbi sac flies from Briggs and Roe, and a 2-out single from Mike McConnell.

Caldwell would load the bases with 1-out in the 9th, but the Warriors Tony Campbell would come on to lock down his 3rd save of the season by getting an infield pop-up and a ground out to end the game.

Logan White picks up the victory for Nyack, pitching 8.1 strong innings, allowing 1 earned and striking out 5.  TJ Briggs would tally 3 hits in game two, with Phil Erwin and John Kennedy also tallying a pair of hits.  

Nyack, at 6-7 is very much alive in the CACC playoff race with 7 conference games remaining.  The Warriors travel to Wilmington, Delaware this Saturday for a double header beginning at 12 PM.
