Box Score NYACK, NY (March 26, 2013)
Women's lacrosse came up short in its home contest for an upset against CACC opponent Post University on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors fell 19-10 to the visiting Egles.
In the 1st half Nyack would come out strong with Victoria Nash scoring within the first minute of play. Post was able to answer before Nyack got up 2 more. Nyack used the first half to gain momentum and score points on the fast break.
The Nyack team gave up some crucial free position shots that could have helped obtain a stronger lead, however, early on in the match, the Lady Warriors were successful shutting down Post's clears and dictating the pace of the game.
Although the Eagles were able to answer back to Nyacks point's, their goals were mostly advantages of free position shots and man up situations.
Nyack ended the half taking the lead by way of winning the draw and executing the ball to goal on the fast break. The score would show 6-7 going into the locker rooms.
Starting the 2nd half Post would come out with a much cleaner game. They were able to score a goal right off the half to tie up the match and then continued to create a schism that Nyack would not be able to recover from.
Post had improved their midfield transition and had more assisted goals which Nyack struggled to defend. Nyack was not able to constantly win 50/50 balls that they would need in order to be able to control the game. Instead, Nyack gave up the ball under pressure and had too many turn overs under pressure, which doubled the amount from the first period.
Nash would score her 3rd goal with 10 minutes left in the game but Nyack had lost control both mentally and physically as the Warriors fought to pick themselves back up.
Lauren Lebo closed out the game by scoring her game & career high 5th goal.
Despite the slip away of what was quite the action-filled game to spectate, fans were pleased as this contest would also hi-light the most goals scored in a game for the Warrior team and would be the first game they've ever held a lead.
Other improvements were the ladies taking the most shot's they've ever done during both halves, which included senior, Amanda Farrell, knocking in her first goal of the season.
Nyack obtained the most draws they've ever won per half to out hustle Post 14-17 and scooped the most ground balls all season as well.
Melissa Richards made he first time appearance as goal keeper and earned the Warrior Team 11 saves respectively.
Words from Coach Dietrich-Reis: "It was a disappointing game. The girls came into it strong but allowed Post to take back control. I was pleased that the team got the opportunity in the first half to command the game and I hope that the taste of being ahead fuels them to be more ball hungry."
The Warrior Team will be back in action on Wednesday April 3, 2013 as they look forward to taking on their CACC rivals, Dominican College; an away contest in Orangeburg, NY at 4pm eastern time.
