Box Score PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 23, 2013) - The Nyack Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 22-1 loss this afternoon to CACC opponent, Holy Family University.
HFU came out strong, 5 draws and 5 goals. Nyack was slow off the draw and had a hard time getting possession. As a result, the Warriors would be held to a scoreless first period, 16-0.
"We needed to follow the ball behind on shots on both teams shots in order to get the ball" - stated Anne Dietrich-Reis
Although the score did not reflect, the Nyack team steadily continued to play hard.
Nyack struggled to get ground balls, getting outbeat 2-9 by HFU in the first, but did much better upon returning from halftime, as they tied 7-7 with ground balls and limitted the Lady Tigers to only 6 goals after the locker room break.
Nyack realized their need to utilize opportunities available on attack to allow better shots. The HFU continued pressing one-on-one situations to beat their defenders or draw calls to further stretch their lead.
After a successful clear attempt by freshman, Lauren Lebo 9 minutes into the second period, she would knock in the first and only team goal for the Lady Warriors.
Junior goalie, Rosemarie Haynes (Glen Ridge, NJ), made 6 saves in net for the Warriors after facing many shots by the Tigers.
Coaches Dietrich-Reis' final thoughs: "The girls played hard, they were often in mismatched situations but kept their heads high. We will use what we learned to come out stronger in our next game."
Nyack is back in action on Tuesday, March 26 as the Warriors host Post University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 3:30pm on Mosely Field.
