The women's lacrosse squad, after jump-starting the first ever 2013 campaign against NE-10 Franklin Pierce University, took on No. 1 seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, Georgian Court University.
In what would be their first CACC contest of the season, GCU would come out on top with a 21-6 victory.
Crimson and gold ribbons were worn in honor of Seton Hill University's recent death with their lacrosse team. The game began with a moment of silence for the Division II school & coach.
Nyack came out strong right away being able to hang tight with GCU. They did well upon winning draw controls and were able to possess the ball into the attacking end. Nyack doubled the amount of total draws won this game than last week as they went from 5-11.
The Lady Warriors would eventually suffer from calls in the 8 which resulted in more opportunities for free position shots for the Lady Lions. GCU shot 21-28 overall and one of the Lady Lions would land her 100th collegiate goal in this contest.
In the second period it was running time and GCU ran an effective stall extending their lead to walk away with their first win of the season (1-3-1, 1-0). Nyack (0-2-0, 0-2) currently holds 3rd place out of the 4 North Division lax teams this week in the CACC.
Nyack's Lauren Lebo (West Simsbury, CT) led all scorers with four goals on the day while Cyan Jean Baptiste (Toronto, Canada) and Victoria Nash (Bayville, NJ) provided one goal apiece, marking their first career goals of the season.
Coach Dietrich-Reis shared the following words after the game: "It was a tough loss at 6-21 but the girls are learning the importance of the fundamentals and how when those are mastered, the game can be brought to a higher level of play."
Freshman, Selena Vargas (Swan Lake, NY) represented Nyack College being one of three conference athletes nominated for Weekly Honor Roll in this week's CACC Women's Lax Report.
The Warrior Team will be back in action on Saturday March 23, 2013 as they look forward to their next match-up against Holy Family University, which would be an away contest in Philadelphia, PA at 12pm eastern time.
