Lakewood, NJ - the women's soccer team was defeated in penalty kicks this afternoon in the opening round of the CACC tournament. The women held a 3-1 lead after the first half of play but GCU would rally to tie the score at 3-3 in the second half. Both teams would play two scoreless overtime periods before the game went to a shoot out.
Georgian Court would strike first off a pass from a direct kick just after the first minute of play to go up 1-0. Nyack would rebound with 3 straight goals to go up 3-1 in 12th, 21st and 29th minute.
Nyack's first goal would come when Sabrina Caires finished a shyot over the keeper's head from 20 yards out, set up by a pass from mid-fielder Ashlee Hayes. Nyack would go ahead 2-1 in the 21st minute of play when Stacey Cervantes found the net for the 8th time this season. The Warriors would gain their third goal of the match when Cervantes found Cyan Jean Baptiste with a through ball to set Jean-Baptiste up for her 8th goal of the season and a 3-1 Nyack lead.
Georgian Court would rally in the 2nd half after being out shot 6-2 by Nyack in the first half with goals in the 51st and 66th minute of play.
Both teams would muster a combined 1 shot in the two over time periods and the two teams would head to an overtime shootout. Penalty kicks would get the better of the Warriors and Georgian Court will move on to the next round of the CACC tournament.
Nyack (8-8-2) will await their next step as they begin the National Christian College East Region tournament.
